robert meadows Poems

I walked into the woodland across a lonely trail
I heard the singing of the birds and the flutter of some quail.
Then I came upon a stream, the gleaming water was so grand,
as I laid back and rested upon a calm and peaceful land.
...

The wind whispered in the pines like a ghost moving slowly towards me.
I knew that it would happen this night for a circle of red went around the golden moon.
Then in an instant I saw her standing by the old barbed wire fence.
Her hair was waving in the wind like a flag on the day of death and battle.
...

I can still see her there, down by the river.
Her soft facial features standing out now because of her loviness.
She is like a springtime day afer a long dull gray and cold winter.
Can it be any wonder why I love her so?
...

Listen to the sound, can you hear it dear?
There it is again, moaning and howling it is getting near.
I can hear it in the valley and on the mountain too.
It is a rising wind, cold, and srtong and cruel.

Woodland Walking

I walked into the woodland across a lonely trail
I heard the singing of the birds and the flutter of some quail.
Then I came upon a stream, the gleaming water was so grand,
as I laid back and rested upon a calm and peaceful land.

You could sense the stirring of the animals that were all around
and you knew that you could not know this in the midst of a town.
It was there that dusk had found me and homeward bound I went
knowing that when I have free time this is how I wish it spent.
