I've seen it,
Saw it as I loitered
Amongst these birds upon a low branch.
With it they crippled, twisted and tainted.

Whose leaves stand taut toward it,
Basks in the rich blue air.
And the earth beneath seems envious green.

Dark, Desolate, Devoid,
The depths are silent now,
A hushed movement is felt in the distance
Amid an ancient plough,

Delusional tidings set serene.
Yet I still sense that insidious sting.

into the skin

The man and his dog
Waded hours through fog.
His mind pounded decidedly on,
Pealing back branches to night's dire depths.
