On Your Presence

I walked the land, parched, aching for a drop,
Of life, chafing to relinquish it's share
Weary of my travels, my lone sojourn
Replete with tales of withering despair.

The vast expanse I trudged, lost and pensive,
And at the darkest hour, the dead of night,
Saw you, resplendent in summer attire,
Serene boughs laden with pallid moonlight.

Dawn, an enchantress at a masquerade
Mesmerized all with her seductive sway
To a tune no minstrel could replicate
Of birds nestled in your arms for the day

The world transfixed by his compelling gaze
The sun, tracing his steps across the sky
Sapped the colour from the canvas of life
Left your crown vibrant, haven for the eye

And I laid to rest amidst your gnarled feet,
Attained, the closure to my pilgrimage
As slumber encased me in her senses
Perceived it all from your noble vantage.

A truant wind in his playful desire
Breached the cocoon of my immature sleep
Tender and doting, you silenced him, with
A rustle of your leaves, like a rebuke deep.

As dusk buried the world in his dark shroud
And the stars resumed their eternal strife
Your soothing aura, the lone solace, for
The moon as he lost a sliver of life.

Treacherous, flooded with memories old,
My mind wandered back to the night before
And with a quiet word, you reassured me
Nay, ‘twas all changed, I was weary no more.
