While I Was Waiting

While I was waiting
an entire generation grudgingly passed me by.
One moment I was enthusiastic, ecstatic -
the next, I discovered
I was left uninformed, disillusioned,
entangled in the vicious weeds of my past.
Where did my present disappear?

While I was waiting
spring suffered my presence
and transformed into chilling winter.
Pale white replaced fertile green and sensuous orange.
The black strands of youth whizzed passed
to reveal a tired wise mane of silver.
When did I grow older?

While I was waiting
I stumbled, loved, lived life.
Waiting, I mused, wondered, appreciated existence.
Mothered, befriended, hugged reality.
Waiting, whining, wishing, working
I stepped into the illusion called life
And, discovered the real Me!
