Peacoke Indian Poems

A graceful bird flew from my heart's warm nest,
For years I weaved it with love and gentle care.
It seemed like a fleeting dream, an illusory quest,
Now my heart is left burdened with despair.
...

In my weary heart dwells a lament, that,
a tale I would share with you flowers.
In the heart of my heart I weaved a nest,
for the lovely creature of spring sky,
...

In the symphony of birds, I sought your voice,
Within the blooms, I searched for your grace,
With you by my side, I learned to perceive,
the beauty of nature, that I have ever seen.

A Graceful Bird

A graceful bird flew from my heart's warm nest,
For years I weaved it with love and gentle care.
It seemed like a fleeting dream, an illusory quest,
Now my heart is left burdened with despair.

It was like a soap bubble, a dream, an Illusion,
the lovely nest become a tomp of memories.

For years thought I had a love so true,
But now I see it was a one-sided flame,
A love that was never meant to be new,
A love that was never meant to be tame.

And so my heart is now a vacant fort,
A lonely place, on a deserted mountain top.
