Stay perfectly still.
At your motionless* center
You travel through time.

When poetic compression of meaning
Passes a quantum threshold
(The Blanck Length?)
Ambiguities arise.

The ghost in the words
The voice in the signs
The figure in the scribbles
That hides between the lines

The French and Japanese pass laws
To try to keep words out
While wanton English tempts words in
Like some old hooker on History Street.
...
The French eat their words
Say it in French with orotund vowels
And backthroat rolling 'r's
Les Francais mangent leur mots

Freed from focus thoughts slide by
A swift and dark flowing river
White waters eddies and whirlpools
A poet plucks treasures from the stream

Shrink wrapped for freshness in telomere tails -
Genes that is, lifestuff -
Tails that tear with each genesplit until they’re gone,
Life too.

The ideal audience size for a poet is one.
Direct from me to you. No watchers.
Whispering together in the privacy of our minds.
When poems are performed therefore

A little boy comes home from school and asks his father what “frugal” means.
“Well” says his father “it means to save”.
The next day the little boy comes home from school all excited
“Dad, we were told such a good story today in class

Seven miles below
The nighttime land glides by
Splashed and spangled with lights
Gold and silver

By the time that you hear me,
I spoke in your past.
When I hear your reply,
You in mine.

To virtual numbers,
Invisible dimensions,
And fictitious proxy waves,
We must now add imaginary time.

A Children's Tale
Once upon a time
There was a little boy called Happy Sam

THE BEST OF TIME
Bathed in dust-spangled ceremonial laser light

We walk as if on weakening ice
Above a great darkness.
Dancing is - difficult
When the ice is thin.

We are geneslaves,
Our flicker of life just a way station
Between parent and child.
When we’re done breeding they give us the toss

This has nothing whatever to do with cooperation!
Millions start! Only one can finish!
The winner lives again! The rest die!

Bishop Berkeley had it backwards
When he talked of treefall.
The quantum world needs privacy

Universe is not matter in space, moving through time!
Universe is, spacetime, warped by matter!
Now! Is an illusion!
Just a point on a many dimensioned map!

While surveying an empty house –
Abandoned scraps of unknown lives
Lying in corners,

Stay perfectly still.
At your motionless* center
You travel through time.
Move,
Time slows.**
Move faster,
Time slows more.**
Move through space at the speed of light,
Time stops completely.**
Light travels at the speed of light.
Always.***
There is no time in the realm of light.
The photon perpetual,
Illuminating eternity,
Endlessly hurtling through – what?
* Relative to yourself
** Relative to your original position
*** Relative to anything
I have begun reading Stewart's poems this morning and find a series of gems no poet lover should miss. His writing is full of lovely images, thought-provoking ideas and is extremely controlled. Budding poets should study what he does. Raynette Eitel
This collection of poems has now been published as a book called 'Poems'. Go to Amazon.com and search for Stewart McKenzie for details.
