Mismatched Socks

Mismatched socks are not to be taken as a sign of sloth
But instead, as a sign of daring resilience that is evidence
Of a battle won in the turbulent dim-lit trenches of new hopes and beginnings
And the courage of the determination to wear shoes that required a pair
Which- bent on remaining hidden-
Announced allegiance to the tyrannical snooze alarm

And if these mismatched sock-shoed feet are found
Standing far from the place of their almost defeat when called
They should be celebrated; for the vibrant rushing waters of time did not impede their journey
Or soil their confidence
Nor caused them to betray the humanity of hardship and incompleteness
With the perfection of bright white crew cut congruence

And if those socks have holes
Prayers should be offered on behalf of those soles
Who, worn and weary, need to receive encouragement
For continuing the journey morning after morning
For battling every force which forbade the prideful and public strutting of mismatched feet
Who survived being robbed of their true cloth companion by the clean laundry hamper

May lint and defeat be ever beneath them.
