Midnight Lights

Hate makes us blind to the good in people
Like a blindfold from a summer sun’s glare.
It obscures our compassion and makes clear our anger
Darkness is everywhere.

Desire hides us from what we already own
It holds a clouding power, to ensnare
Making petty the great gifts of life itself
Darkness is everywhere.

Deceit shrouds others from the truth
Like a promise of safety,
When you know you must beware.
Darkness is everywhere.

But fret not if you have succumbed
To one of these devils,
For we all need darkness
To see the light in ourselves.
