The Text Message

From the shower I heard the familiar tone,
A message from someone sent to my phone.
Who? I thought, it could be only two,
This early, it would be Angie or you.

Oh how the mind with its veil brings relief
To cover the facts beyond our belief.
That transient curtain, erect, like a shield
Partition in place, the horror concealed.

The shroud, without substance, falls like a stone.
Rendered inept by the sound of a phone.
the anguish refreshed, its vigour anew.
It couldn't be you!
It will never be you.
