A Sterling Man

Ice-cold water splashed across my ghost
While praying for my soul to cease.
I hoped reprive would guide me most
Past a swift and sudden sweet release.

I fought for foolish things that in the end
I knew full well I could never win.
No stolen stars and no random gain,
Yet I tried and tried again and again.

A sterling man, you won't mar me.
I'm as far beyond reproach
As the silent sea.
Yes, so sterling. You just can't see
The winds as they approach
To comfort my lost me.
