The Armies Marching

As the sun rises the field grows dark
The armies marching
Forever marching to war

Fear on the faces of young men
Soldiers position
Charge as they do

Clash of steel
Volley of arrows

Lives end
Bodies drop

A once beautiful field
Sent to ruins of red

A final blow
Shall send them away
Yet they do not see

As the men fall
The general pulls
A sword of steel
Away from it’s protective home

One last charge
To save his land
To save his life

The blow is dealt
Yet still they cannot win

Flanks fall
Horses flee
Men flee
Leaving nothing
But weakness

Both armies grow ever smaller
A final defense stands

A hope to return from where they came
A miracle falls into action
They are let to go

A still nation they stand
Shattered as they lost an army
Hopeful as they were freed
Touched as the men for once did what was right

One marches away full in pride
The survivors walk heads far down
They turn to face their saviors
Ever grateful
Ever thankful

Both peoples leave this ever potent place
Never again shall they visit
Nor they hope will the souls of their children
The armies marching
Forever marching to death
