Beer bottles and lust in the city,
Girls dance on barroom tables
And sway sweetly beneath streetlights;

I’m a simple man
Cleaning your car
After a heavy snowfall;
I’m saying little prayers
...

I always find myself laughing
In the hour of marvelous confusion
Walking somewhere in the sunlight
With no real destination
...

Life is confusing
When your heart is sad;
It is difficult to distinguish
Who your true friends are
...

A young mother
And a six year old daughter
Were crossing a busy intersection
To go to a public library.

Human beings are fragile and need love
In this painful existence that begins with a slap
And often spirals downward into abuse
From the people who should desire to protect us.

In these long days
Of summery heat
Stirring passionate desire,
I could live like a modern savage
