Emancipation

Bridge span time's chasm
where spirits cross at will,
entering a realm known to all
who came and went their ways
long before the world was born.

Bridges rusted then collapsed,
fallen into the oblivion of eons
knew the footfall of multitudes
who trod this fragile shoreline.

Recent arrivals, we who now ply
life's tumultuous waters move
swiftly within walls of a vortex,
a dysfunctional whirling maelstrom.

How many, the years that remain,
how long this drought of sanity?

Freedom set free bits at a time,
a great emancipation of lies.

Here, upon a ragged talus slope
we fall unchecked and slide
down and ever downward.
