Through still and stagnant waters green,
A clouded mass of silt and weed
Beside the bridge's arch.

Some people are like flowers,
They grow,
They bloom,
They shine for a while,

The grocer's shop has closed upon this straight and narrow lane,
Leading from the high street past the field,
Where the chilly wind did blow the ring of changes through,
The town that does no longer seem to yield.

I wake up in the morning
With such happiness inside,
Within my thoughts and in my heart
My love I cannot hide,

The dark clouds are moving
And rolling towards me,
The blue skies are lost
And are drowned by the grey,
...

At the edge of the field in a hedgerow so tangled,
So thick and so dense where the holly does grow,
Berries of scarlet are caught in the sunlight,
Its leaves sharp and shining and all is aglow.

Upon the Palmers Brewery wall
The water wheel does gently turn,
Around, around the sodden spokes
In motion to the flow,

Now always in my heart you dwell
Wherever I may go,
And always in my thoughts you stay
My future I now know,
