Your rhythmic breathing lulls me
Lures me
The rise and fall of your chest so steady
The metronome of your drumming heart

The sky is electric
Periodically, particles of energy charge the air
Brief moments of illumination

Desperately struggling between illusionary and real
Wear the mask
Become the character
A flawless unfaltering facade

She stalks me
Quietly shadowing
Creeping stealthily
Past obsessed

I watch as you inhale your hourly dose of nicotine
Enjoying the noxious aroma and the small billowing puffs escaping your lips
The way you hold your habit
So nonchalant in your hands
