CHARLES BAILEY Poems

My life was spent in many ways
Loving at night, dreading the days
From a child in school to an old man
Love slipped through my fingers like grains of sand.
...

Way up high in the tall tall trees
The wind rushes by like a gentle breeze.
Way up from everyone, from all the laughter
and all the fun
...

He: What are you thinking of my dear?

She: If a child could live without fear
...

My mind is at peace when I am with you
Within your arms, my spirit is renewed
Holding you close and feeling your breath
Upon my face, gives my soul rest
...

Haze, smoke and fog
Drifts across my dreams
I walk in a sunless sky
Or so it seems
...

A young girl looks in her mirror
As she wonders what life will bring
She brushes her hair and checks her skin
And applies some cleansing cream
...

I left home when I was only thirteen
The farm life I thought was not for me
I've returned, I stand here looking in the window
Hopeing that the darkness will hide me.
...

The winter wind is restless tonight
It is looking for something it cannot find.
My heart is moving with the wind
Searching for someone I wish were mine
...

I lost the key to my heart
But I did not care.
I never planned to use it again,
I had left my heart, somewhere.
...

He's seen and done most everythig a man can see or do
He kissed his wife and said goodbye and fought a war or two.
He sailed the sea's and walked the land with a rifle in his grip
A hint of liquor on his breath and her kiss upon his lips.
...

I am your child speaking from the womb
If you cannot hear my cries now
You will hear them from my tomb.
Not a tomb like you will have one day,
...

An Angel came to me
In a dream, when I
Was a child.
I thought I would

Lost Loves

My life was spent in many ways
Loving at night, dreading the days
From a child in school to an old man
Love slipped through my fingers like grains of sand.

They say your first love is the one that lasts
My first love is lost in the past
My second love faired no better
She was cold and fickle like the changing weather

My third love stayed but she gave her heart
To someone new, till death did us part
The loves of my life have come and gone
Now I stand one last time at loves golden throne

Shall I give my heart as in the past
Take the chance this love will last?
I think not, I can't stand the pain
I shall never give my heart again

If I had been more gentle and kind
If I had talked with them and shared my mind
Maybe one love would have stayed with me
I could have avoided this misery

It's sad to grow old and still be alone
To remember all the loves I have known
Even God does not love me, as I have been taught
I guess the lost loves, were all my fault.

To all the girls I have loved, forgive me
