i heard a leaf fall when i died,
silent till landing, shocked surprise.

crisp and stiff,

the sun rose
as i smoked my troubles away.

the earth was still

my finger tips slipped,

along my forehead
down the brim of my nose
...

I moan.

For my heart
aches and breaks
...

and i have never been so close
as i was to breaking.

in half and then fourths.

oh, to control the beating
of such a weary heart,
and will it to slow up,
adjust to this second start.

you watch me and i know,
curled lips tied in a pretty little bow.

pain, burn, and yearning
...

the hum of the city
with a trumpet on the side.
