Fabian Gerard Stanley Poems

Watch the kettle on the stove
Puffing away the steam;
The morning paper's on the table
And you're still in a dream.
...

I wonder where they get it from
All this worry and care
Ask anybody if they knew,
They’d tell you here and there.
...

Sometimes we don't get what we pray for
And at other times we will.
Don't ever think God doesn't love you
Just know He's in charge, be still.
...

The alarm rang out loud, t'was past midday
As a certain lion in arrogant slumber lay;
By the time it woke up, it was too late
For craftier predators had grabbed its plate.
...

Today I awoke and saw it was cloudy
But I know of silver linings hidden;
For, I am awake, I am alive,
And choose not to be bed ridden.
...

They're from another planet not too far from ours
But an interesting one at that, just like good ol' Mars.

They're wired different, that's all - not much else is strange
...

Why is it when I want to find
A space quiet, some peace of mind
Even so tiny as a louse,
Why this game of Cat and Mouse?
...

Please join me as I raise a toast
To memories of which I fondly boast
From all I remember through the years
Songs, hair-dos, seasons and fears.

The Kettle

Watch the kettle on the stove
Puffing away the steam;
The morning paper's on the table
And you're still in a dream.

Listen to the kettle hiss and sing
As the water bubbles;
You cringe before the day ahead,
You know it's fraught with troubles.

But as puffs of steam go heavenward
And the aroma mills around you;
The warmth of daylight wraps you in itself
As God's love begins to surround you.

Gratitude spills forth from your heart
As you sip the steaming brew;
That you're alive and all is well
With the world, your kettle and you.

Thank God for the humble kettle
And that your waking wasn't burned;
And for His amazing grace
And the lesson you've learned.
