Young migrants from Ireland have never been rare
Many of them travelled on the ferries from Dunlaoghaire and Rosslare
To Holyhead and Fishguard on their journey to elsewhere
In their search of adventure in the big World out there

Above the high wood at South Belgrave the dawn is breaking gray
Where the little green bellbirds do greet the new day
Like tiny bells ringing so pleasant to hear
They can be heard in Birdsland every day of the year
...

Though in fancy the past you do visit again
Memories of what was are all that we have to retain
But the now is all that does matter as the wise one does say
And at the stroke of midnight the past will be today
...

On what others never look at twice great beauty he does see
Since he is quite different as the word can be
To most other members of the local community
And those different can seem quite interesting would you not agree
...

Not one of the popular people of his side of the town
Though in his words he never puts anyone deliberately down
His main problem is what he does think he does say
From others the truth in his mind is not hidden away
...

Does not matter where you come from or your nationality
We are all homo sapiens of the human family
Though of different skin pigmentation we may look different visually
We interbreed with each other we are leaves of the one tree
...

Do not know if my long deceased father and mother would be proud to call me son
I am not one of the successful great things I have never done
Just another average plodder who cannot boast of a degree
At the twilight of my existence time is running out on me
...

Have you ever asked yourself what life is about
On your solitary moments of reflection and self doubt
Every day hurrying to work against the clock of time
On competing for success with others you spend your life's prime

Treat others with respect and they will respect you
And to your higher self try to remain as true
A smile as is said does not come at a price
No it will not cost you a thing for to be nice
