The Truthful One Poem by Francis Duggan

The Truthful One

Not one of the popular people of his side of the town
Though in his words he never puts anyone deliberately down
His main problem is what he does think he does say
From others the truth in his mind is not hidden away
For being truthful to pay there is always a price
To some people the truth on them is not complimentary or nice
And since he is one of those who cannot tell a lie
He will not be mourned by everyone in the community on the day he does die
In his early thirties his truthfulness the main reason he does not have a wife
Very few women with a truly truthful man would wish to spend their life
Of guile or deception he is one who is free
He would not even know how to use flattery
Though in his words he never puts anyone deliberately down
He will never become the most popular one of the town.
