After love
we lie apart
separately sad
thinking our separate thoughts

You bring me love in a silver cup
and I bring you my hands that are worn
and a heart that's beginning to rust.

if I jump

somewhere near the bottom
an elderly woman

They say the polar bears will soon be gone
and our children's children
won't believe birds once sang
in our gardens.

you wake

Once I overheard a middle-aged Jewish woman
talking to her Rabbi
telling him of how she and a friend
travelled to Auschwitz

bees buzzing
