IFEOLUWA POPOOLA Poems

1.

Clear as crystal in a dream, she came.
Flashed her brightest smile, exposing her ever perfect white set of teeth
She was a beauty, radiant clean skin
Head full of hairs, dark and lovely

Hast thou found love yet, troubled soul?
Clingy and humble lovers approach thee,
Rich and poor, old and young adore thee
Alas! Rejection you served them all.

Shaken to the roots,
As the only ray of sunshine diminished
Love came crashing
At Twenty - one

I want a life,
Free from control,
Free from scoldings,
Free from abuses.
...

Once, I was in a womb,
Naive and depending on Ma,
Throwing kicks at will,
Demanding for meals at odd hours.

Dead

Clear as crystal in a dream, she came.
Flashed her brightest smile, exposing her ever perfect white set of teeth
She was a beauty, radiant clean skin
Head full of hairs, dark and lovely
Like a star filled night
Her killer smile charmed me
'come', she beckoned, stay with me forever
It was tempting, but I declined
Very soon, I promised her
Her killers must not go free. Revenge.
I woke up, 'COME', I heard again
I saw the dead
Inviting me
Should I be scared?
