Jay Junker Poems

I have stood upon the hallowed ground,

seen the flags half staff,
the wreaths prepared for the ages.
...

Life is a battleground.
When dreams are shattered
there is one waiting to be rescued,
from the debris.
...

The morning hour rushes quickly,
our journey just beginning.
To a place I must be
as he cannot.

Hallowed

I have stood upon the hallowed ground,

seen the flags half staff,
the wreaths prepared for the ages.
I have heard the rifles fire
and the bugle play,
to remember, for all time.

I have stood upon the hallowed ground,

the green expanse stretched out before me,
dotted,
with granite stones and obelisks,
statues and markers of unknowns.
Orders followed to the end,
all given for God and Country.

Soldiers dwell unto this place,
through Revolution, Civil and World Wars,
of Nam, Korea the Middle East,
and skirmishes untold.
Of all faiths, color and creed,
no man stood alone.

I stand upon this hallowed ground,
to remember,
to honor, what was given me.
