To Honor (For Sara Anne) Poem by Jay Junker

To Honor (For Sara Anne)

The morning hour rushes quickly,
our journey just beginning.
To a place I must be
as he cannot.
To stand in his place.
To represent family.....
to Honor.

I stand steadfast,
in the brisk cold air,
as would he.....
to Honor.

I listen to the mournful
tune of the bugle.
Not seen.....
to Honor.

I look and wonder as the seven old men in uniform,
stand at the ready.
I stand also,
not flinching as would he.
The salvo fired times three.....
to Honor.

I feel a tear
at the presentation of colors,
'on behalf of a greatful nation'.....
to Honor.

A life of struggle,
of happiness and pain.
To have found the peace
we all search for in vain.

I stand quietly
reflecting,
as the Psalm is read.
I am here not just for one,
but two.....
to Honor.

A journeys end
with family.....
to Honor.
