She stared at me
Big eyes, black eyeballs deep like the sea
Innocence in them not yet hijacked by age
Unasked questions jostle in her gaze

As I trudge along to be swallowed by time
only the wounds failing to heal follow me as faithful dogs
Relish of sweets I tasted in life come back but fleetingly
since they don't pinch me in my tattered shoes.

In the twilight of life as I loll on my rocking chair
My eyes look but do not see all that's around me
I ride piggy back on memory's fragments
To times gone past and lost forever.
...

You remain in a cocoon of my fantasy
Fingers of reality not to pry it open
and rupture the henna leaves nestling it in my heart
With your enigma gone, so would you.'
