I know why the caged bird sings
to drown out the sound of silent despair
for the beautiful resonating sound it brings
remembering blue skies and fresh spring air
...
It's a cold balmy night
A chill wind whips across an empty yard
Devoid of life, twinkling in the twilight
...
shadows whisper and echo tears
amid the laughter hides the fear
in the dying of the light the vision clears
but the truth stays hidden behind smoke and mirrors
...
we sat on the yard trying to look hard
like a collection of brutish retards
when out of nowhere the siren did blare
somebody went into intensive care
...
she sits there with that smile so inquisitive
that look in her eye as if she were the definitve
authority
on my inner being
...
here I lay in silent dead of night
amid the cigarette ashes and irredescent moonlight
shimmering through my little eye to paradise
to set sail aboard this ghastly vessel
...
the empty sidewalk where chalklines still show
bullets bang loudly down the boulevard
seeds planted in tragedy never grow
meanwhile, everyone wants to be a star
...
a thousand times he's walked the world
for countless more will he toil
through the dust and debris
of ages past and yet to dawn
...
a man falls clutching his chest
steel piereced flesh
faces smile in jest
...
pepper spray, twelve ninety-seven a can
expanding billy club, thirty dollars
new uniform and hat, eighty dollars
over time, paid vacations, and sick days
...
I'm just looking to get a little feed back on my poems and hopefully that will help me grow as a writer. I'm hoping to write novels but poetry has always been a passion of mine. Whether writing poetry or novels or whatever it is that you do, you're pouring your heart and soul onto a piece of paper for all the world to see.)
Ode To Maya Angelou(I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings)
I know why the caged bird sings
to drown out the sound of silent despair
for the beautiful resonating sound it brings
remembering blue skies and fresh spring air
the caged bird sits and sings and stares
it sings for the trees and grass and worms it knows
and the twinkling lights beneath the stars
that lie beyond where it can no longer go
the caged bird sings through its stifling bars
to heal old wounds and mend old scars
over mountain tops it reigns supreme
the free bird flys and soars so high
dreaming their dreams within a dream
the caged bird walks and squawks a sigh
they know no boundaries but the sky
the free bird looks at every noise, what's there?
the caged bird sings and sings without a care
