Kwai Chee Low Poems

Rain in cooling swathes of water
Drenches the grass a shining wet
Canopies of leaves dripping at every corner
A parade of umbrellas, their owners in a fret
...

Miles of paddy fields catch the eye,
shimmering golden in the heat of the midday sun.
Farmers in straw hats with buffalo in tow,
crisp fresh air I have missed for so long.
...

If trees can talk,
even a mindless rumble.
Everyone will gawk,
but they remain stiff and sombre.
...

The hustle and bustle at the airport
Some rushing, frantically searching for passport
Mothers’s tearful goodbyes,
Trying their best not to cry
...

Life is a kaleidoscope
A roller coaster of emotion
A stage where dramas never cease
To haunt us in slow motion
...

Autumn breeze soft and cool,
descending from the mountains,
whistling through trees and dales.
Leaves of red and gold,
...

Autumn showers
Wet and cool
From the heat of summer
Noisy crowds in every pool
...

He stood before the blistering forge,
where coals burned blazing red-hot,
like molten lava the ore from the gorge.
Long he had ferreted and sought.
...

She smiled at him, a tired tender smile.
Knowing the end is near,
and suffering drawing to a close.
Yet unwilling to leave him,
...

It's another starry night,
many more hours before first light.
Cool night air, swirling mist,
forming shadows at every twist.
...

He stared at his surgeon robe.
White, hanging limp and lifeless,
as the little girl on the operation table.
He had fought for her life, but failed.
...

The horizon, a defining line
of clear blue skies above
and golden paddy fields below.
Straw-hatted women, their skin
...

Memories, deep as the open sea,
sweet as the first kiss,
dark as the blackest night.
They follow like a shadow.
...

The orphans's favourite haunt was the bridge,
decrepit and crescent shaped
like the half moon above.
When the dreaded time came for parting
...

Sea breeze so salty and warm
Dark clouds brewing up a storm
Sea spray all over my face
Worries long gone, without a trace
...

The north wind blows cold and dreary,
shrouding trees like snow white bridal gowns.
Streams once happily murmuring and gurgling,
now mute in ice till spring's meltdown.
...

I call your name a thousand times
I picture your face
Memories hauntingly linger
Of dusk, a falling veil
...

Life is a riddle and to some a game
And yet some say a timeless train
We cry at birth, as if we know the pain
Of sickness, old age and death to blame
...
