it is night, again,
insomnia infects my veins;
i wonder through this vacant city of broken dreams
and heartless, desperate schemes.
...
it seems at times,
there’s nothing else to write about;
and yet this stubborn compulsion remains:
to arrange lines of syllabled rhymes,
...
...supine bodies of naked, sweaty flesh
intertwined on the floor like
snakes in their spring mating ritual
copulating
...
Lights dance across the loft
While outside the rain falls soft
And on the radio Dylan sings a lament
While you lay entwined with your new lover
...
...And so your spirit wanders through the valleys of the city,
Like a cool winter breeze.
It is a pale shadow which I cannot follow,
But whose presence can be felt everywhere.

Come, my darling and take my hand
Let us walk across these mirrored sands
Breath deep the sweet ocean air
And dream of far-off exotic lands.
...
I am older by a hundred years
Or so it seems through this veil of tears
Like my heart
Tonight the city burns

Night And The City Of Broken Dreams
it is night, again,
insomnia infects my veins;
i wonder through this vacant city of broken dreams
and heartless, desperate schemes.
i find my way to the night before,
to live in the shadow of the one i love.
tonight, no one waits or wants for me:
she is elsewhere, with someone new.
i finger the creases of my shirt and,
write a million poems in my head
while I walk these empty streets full of broken dreams
and naked dread.
i put the memories back together;
this unpredictable city of twisted streets:
a map of our love - the bars where we used to meet
all empty now and silent;
and these streets echo with the bladed screams
of my memories as they burst forth.....
