I surrender my thoughts
To the sounds of the engine
The air I'm moving through
And friction; tires gripping turns
...
You are a great storm; you are pouring rain
You fill the oceans; keep all the sea creatures alive
I am a captain stuck in this lonely shore town
Looking out at my vessel with you holding it up
...
Fire fades the stars
they blend with embers
and inside of your hood
that face is aglow
...
The Windows Are Down
I surrender my thoughts
To the sounds of the engine
The air I'm moving through
And friction; tires gripping turns
They're all interim filler for what's next to me
Moving far too fast
Velocity is a calming sedative
Bending the universe by shifting gears
Father time turns away his wary eye
With each apex and depression
Each bend; each straight
Peace and aggression become the same
As desire and need have been for some time
Not a street light for miles past
All is well
Not a soul at this hour
Just you and I
The not yet visible sun
Sends faint blue into the eastern skyline
With glassy ocean to my left
And fleeting darkness at my back
I slow down
A minute again filled with sixty strife seconds
Thoughts race back to my brain
But desire and need stay the same
Inside my head you are a passenger
The seat beside me is empty
