In summer there’d be a herd of cows

Sitting on a bollard
by the harbour wall
that old seagull
staring at me

Like some great fallen king
or god from outer space
it lies now dead and lifeless
on the shore. I estimate it weighs

I loved all three
of my silver
threepenny bits
especially the shiny one
...

Feeling bad tonight—
If the worst comes to the worst,
I’ll choose cremation.
