I stand by the crater’s edge
staring down
the molten lava bubbles
like boiling treacle
The volcano a sign of anger
I feel its fury
I dive into the lava
sinking below the surface
The crater explodes
the fury released
I rise with the lava
refreshed and renewed
a phoenix from the flames
The fires have gone out
myself reborn
with new strength
ready to face the world
