267. The Other Night Poem by Jaden Knight

267. The Other Night

Rating: 5.0

The other night I met a girl the worse for drink
wearing a torn dress of white and pink
staggering around all over the place
her makeup smudged all over her face

I walked with her and helped her home
didn't want her to be alone
when we got there she invited me in
' I've got food' she said with a tiny grin

I accepted her offer and closed the door
as she almost passed out upon the floor
I held her up gently gently said
'I think it is time you went to bed'

When we got to her room it was a mess
to be honest at the time I couldn't have cared less
she pulled her dress up over her head
and slowly climbed into her bed

Before she closed her eyes she said
'thanks for helping me to bed
I'll sleep through any noise you make
you can do what you wish until I wake'

I thought a moment about my wishes
then went to the kitchen and washed her dishes
not complaining that there was a lot
putting them away in their rightful spot

I fed her little black cat a bowl of tuna fish
and changed the water in his dish
he didn't care who I could be
I had food so he was pleased to see me

I picked up the dress and sewed up the tears
as if they had never even been there
though it took most of the night
I was done as it was getting light

She woke up to breakfast in bed
with anti hangover pills for her head
bacon eggs beans toast and tea
all carefully made and served by me

I wonder if she ever thinks about
just what happened while her light was out
I guess she never really thought it through
but I never took advantage would you

John, I enjoyed your poem. Having served in the military for 21 years, I know that after a few drinks and long after midnight, we all turn into sailors, Any Port in the Storm.
