All the girls I have seen today
seem so sad and frightened
in this quietly thriving town
why is that so
the answer is plain enough to see
if you can be bothered to look
Is it that they have become so fake
to cover up their deficiencies
that they are terrified you see them
for what they really are
fake tans and acts are all very well
but it's not who you really are
Or that they've become a slave to their phones
they don't notice what's around them
posting continuous selfies and updates
just in case the world has forgotten they exist
they have no real future
as they waste their present
selling their dreams for likes and comments
surely even they realise
that there's only so much
that social media can teach you
All the girls I have seen today
seem so sad and frightened
in this quietly thriving town
maybe if they were just who they truly are
instead of a face in a photo
they might actually mean more to themselves
Very intriguing poem. Not sure how accurate your appraisals are; you lump them all together! ! But maybe using social medial (like poemhunter? ?) Is better than drowning one's self in booze or 'meth ' or too much marijuana. Maybe you could approach one and explore her character, assuming this poem is from your experiencs. Bri :)
