Upon the footplate
When steam ruled the rail
Train loads of steel
Or sacks full of mail
High polished shovels
To lift lumps of coal
The firemen threw
Into firebox hole
To heat up the water
Make steam pressure rise
Drives cast iron wheels
With their long rods and ties
Now we have diesel
That ended the dream
Of stoking up boilers
And getting up steam
