.5. In A Spin Poem by David Threadgold

.5. In A Spin

A little mini whirlwind
Gave my washing quite a turn
It spun around the garden
Just like a butter churn

My best white shirt flew like a kite
Once taken from the line
It soared across my neighbour’s fence
And got tangled in his vine

A pair of socks chased boxer shorts
In circles round a tree
As if they’d got a breath of life
To set their spirits free

The cover from my bed quilt
Caught round a pole real good
While the pillowcases fluttered down
And landed in the mud

How could a pond make towels green?
A shade that’s sure to stay
How did the mini whirlwind know?
That today was washing day
