919. Mother! Do Self Help Books Really Help? ! 060608

Self help books say to conquer fear by developing courage.
I wonder unless one reaches non-duality,
How come it is possible to eradicate fear any?

Self help books say to achieve harmony by developing love to all.
I wonder unless one finds his soul in all,
How come it is possible to love others as one’s own self?

Self help books say to plan and act for developing leadership.
I wonder unless one becomes humble to serve,
How come it is possible to lead others anyway?

Self help books always help one to thicken the ‘I’ wall.
Where as the real self help process is to melt the ‘I’ wall.
Mother, help me to melt my mind to become one with all. 060608

(Two decades before I was interested in reading self-help books motivated by friends and mentor which type of books are found around the globe every nook and corner. I had always the confusion how these books would really help one soul to achieve the things which are said in the book. Later I realized the straight way to achieve the goals of human life is introspection with total surrender to God.)

Certainly this poem is not against self-help books from which I got real helps before years. I only want to point the straight way. Our mind is with us always. All lofty thoughts come deep from mind. If one can dive deep into mind no need of going after such books.
Moreover while following such books there is a danger of thickening the ‘I’. For example to avoid fear in public speaking, the suggestions maybe, ‘think that you know better than the audience’. This kind of thinking may yield a good speech. But when one realizes his own soul in audience, like great Vivekananda, then the audience hearts shall be touched easily. That was why there was a thunderous applause when Swamiji uttered the words ‘Dear sisters and brothers’. Why the same audience was not moved by the same ‘Dear sisters and brothers’ told by other speakers too?

There are many 'Dos' and 'Don'ts'. The person advising this will not follow these things. This is the order of the today's world. One should act according to the dictates of his or her conscience.
