A "Dog's" Life Poem by Namita Rani Panda

A "Dog's" Life

Rating: 5.0

Whenever my Toffee sees me,
Thrilled with excitement
Runs towards me to greet,
With love licks my hands and feet,
Brushes herself against my legs

As I run to my boss
To greet him with warm wishes
With a mask of smiling face,
Though in the core
A Himalaya of curses I store
For the causes of my limitless stresses.

My Toffee sits at my feet relaxed
With blinking eyes like twinkling stars
Or with a gaze so lovely and soft,
Ears relaxed, brows smooth,
Mouth opened a bit
Exposing a few white teeth,
As if throwing a beauty queen smile so sweet,

Similarly, I sit relaxed in my A.C. Chamber,
Extremely cool and composed I appear,
But with agony is packed my heart,
Though with a ready-made office smile
I look extremely polite and perfectly smart.

My Toffee exhibits submissive belly rolls
With belly up and tongue out,
Barks happily and plays bow:
Raising her backside in the air,
Lowering the chest to the ground,
An invitation to play with me,

As I stand before my boss bending my head,
Folding my hands
And adopt many tricks to please him.

My Toffee follows me with pride
Wherever I go
Holding her tail high,
Wagging it with gusto,
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow
Accompanies me for a joyride,

As I follow my boss
Wherever he goes
And do my best with all possible ways
To execute what he says.

The only difference is
Whatever Toffee does is out of undying dedication
And unconditional love and affection

And I for money and social position
But sometimes I doubt,
Isn't Toffee modern and civilized like me?
