A Friend In Need Poem by Michael P. Johnson

A Friend In Need

So many years have come and gone
Since when we went to school
I thought of all our childish fun
The times we played the fool

Since then I've seen your heart of hate
Your bitterness of soul
The life you'll not repudiate
For love to make you whole

Your wicked deeds were told to me
The harmful things you've said
I prayed The Lord would set you free
One night beside my bed

Crying! I sought my Father's throne
Knocking on Heaven's door
I prayed He'd make your heart of stone
Just as a child's before

While Satan tried with many things
To flood my thoughts with guile
Compassion bore ten thousand wings
And love brought forth a smile

To break the hold of Satan's lie
To loose you from his jail
More fervent grew my faithful cry
To He who cannot fail

Each day each night on bended knee
I fought for saving grace
God saw the love He'd given me
And turned to me His face

I felt such love tremendous peace
Victory was in the air
When all at once I felt release
And silent was my prayer..... m
