A Hill Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

A Hill

‘Solah Singi Dhar’
As is named
The hill
With sixteen horns
A series of
Himalayan range
Always fascinating
Full of lull
Adventures
Hidden secrets
Of Nature
Eye catching
To the visitors
From all over.

Widening
To touch the feet
Of pious river
The Ganges
At Hariduwar
Known as
The door-step
Into the heaven
Thereafter
Its origin
From the womb
Of Himalayas.

Locating
Geographically
In its lap
My native village
My sweet home
Attaching
Whole sanctity
Sentiments
And deep feelings
Ever since
My child-hood.

Wherein
Have intermingled
With the soil
The ashes of
My forefathers
Historically
From generation
To generation
From the times
Immemorial
Flowing down
Through
The river Sutlej
Into the Indian
Ocean
And I too bound to.

For me a place
Of worship
Worship of
My forefathers
Reflecting cultural
Heritage.

Thus, so often
I use to visit
Leaving behind
Hustle and bustle
Of the city
As it bestows
Solace
Contentment
And delight
Unexplainable.
