A Lost Sheep? Poem by Dr John Celes

A Lost Sheep?

One sheep had left the flock some years ago!
The shepherd did allow this one to go;
It strayed to not a far away meadow;
Nevertheless, it was a blunder, oh!

What made this sheep to do this thing - none know;
Was it a decision in haste or more?
The shepherd knows the problem to the core;
But why did he permit it through the door?

Sometimes, some sheep get fed up with the grass;
Perhaps, meadows nigh seem greener, alas!
Some stray away for some kind of time-pass!
What senses tell us at times could be false!

Why did the shepherd not go after it?
All shepherds love their sheep alike in flock;
By succulence of grass, the sheep was hit;
Why did the heart of sheep become like rock?

The sheep didn't care to lose its master's fold;
By disobedience, it had turned quite bold;
Perhaps, it did not like what it was told;
May be, it wished to act as if quite old!

The sheep didn't know the dangers of the world;
It quite forgot the shepherd's heart of gold;
The taste of ‘better' grass had changed its hold;
It thought it came from superior, a mould!

Some day, it will regret its great mistake;
The grass it eats now could become soon fake;
Its dreamy world could lose its sheen and make;
Let's hope it gets some wisdom for God's sake!

God gives much freedom to His creatures all;
By leading righteous life, we must depart;
Most sheep listen and heed to shepherd's call;
All heinous sins arise from human heart!

The Maker loves all creatures equally;
All souls are of same make and quality;
Neglecting God is each one's grave folly!
Man's sinfulness is boundless, what a pity!

The Almighty knows how to save all souls!
He gives a time enough and long to change;
He grants some persons newer better roles;
His saving grace has many forms and range!

Yet, man must never give up heaven's gaze;
Our earthly life is like a cage and maze;
Should we abandon God's meadow and graze?
A fool forsakes a shepherd's care and face!
