A Midnight Dream Poem by Gladden Scribbles

A Midnight Dream

I wake! I wake! I wake!
It was for my love's only sake
What then have I dreamt overnight
That brought tears to this weeping sight?
I was in a chaise driven by an angel mild
On which gently I sat like a child
And we rode over fields and fen
Night on nights beyond the sight of men
And we rode on day by day
Scene by scenes that I cannot say
And we rode down slow and slow
Cloud on clouds on Eden below.
Soon, I was alone in Sarah's care,
Rejoined in love in extreme tears
And we smiled and wept on our grief
Glad that fate has found us relief
And we jollied and shared the bane
Of all that on earth has brought us pain
But just when I thought my woes were gone,
a rooster crowed to declare the dawn.
