A Mirror And A Clean Cottonbud Poem by Doris Cornago

A Mirror And A Clean Cottonbud

Getting ready for 33 days is like building the first boat
Dedication to a cause lasts more than a week
Rearranging the layers of yourself
Widening your boundaries
Letting go of doubts
Encircling those
Which gives
The best
Comfort
Make
Your bed
And lie on it
Be proud that
Life's how you want it
Privacy in relationships
Out of season and in season
A hand to hold, an ear to hear
If there's a speck in your eye, you
Need a mirror and a clean cotton bud
Take your time, there's no hurry, there's
Only your life before you and flexibility of time
No ice cream melting in the dark of McArthur's park

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark, all the sweet, green icing flowing down' is taken from Richard Harris' song, MacArthur Park. I've been singing this song as a Beatles' hit. The next line goes, 'Someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think that I can take it, '. This song is full of metaphor and as a feeling of ennui sets in, I think of this song. How can something that feels so right be seen as wrong? Because your eye still has that speck.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The photo is my friend's mother who sees only the best things in people, a very kind and gentle woman. She was a village girl and very grateful for having a good husband. Her devotion to son and husband is unparalleled.
