A Music Lover's Lament Poem by Karen Edwards

A Music Lover's Lament

I'm dazed and confused, Lord
for I just don't understand,
are you tired of your choirs?
Or are you starting up a band?

I started wearing black
when David Bowie died,
and hadn't the time to change
when you up and took Glen Frey.

Did you cry tears in heaven
when Prince came home to you?
The people here on earth sure did
'cause it left us pretty blue.

By the way, I am missing
Leonard Cohen, too.
Merle Haggard, Leon Russell
and still, you were not through.

George Michael hit me really hard,
though I don't know why,
and to Greg Lake and Keith
Emmerson, I also said goodbye.

I feel like lightning crashes
and someone else is gone.
Another talent of the music world
has from this life moved on.

All apologies I give you, Lord,
please forgive me, for you know best,
but this year for music lovers
has been an awful test.

With all this loss, my faith's still strong,
for if, there's one thing I know,
I've got to get to Heaven now,
for I don't want to miss that show.

... if there are featured musical acts for New Year's Eve in the here-after. Probably the moment is meaningless in eternity. But if there were, can you just imagine?
