A Path To Sea Poem by Brian Sonberg

A Path To Sea

Rating: 3.0

Where the land meets the sea, down by the pier,
I stood many a day just breathing,
Watching the men fish with nets and with spears.
No matter if the day was dark or clear
They were there and my life felt fleeting.

The sea was calling, I could feel its pull
Just as low tide sucks the sea from the land.
So would I learn from any man or school
Whatever it took to learn all the rules
To get out of port, below or as hand.

Such a change, I had thought, would put to rest
What was bringing me down for far too long.
What matter of things would I get off my chest?
No one should go through a life so depressed,
Nor without going to sea, singing some songs.

So here I found that my life's path diverged
From what's common and expected from men
But in every age some souls must immerge
Below what's mundane. There gain and emerge
As something better or more cognizant.
