A Perfect Death Poem by Francis Duggan

A Perfect Death

We all do have our own small fears and phobias
The most courageous often go to an early grave
But I for one would rather die of old age
And leave it to the fearless to die young and brave.

My final resting spot none may care to remember
And where my remains lay the last post won't be played
But the dead are past all cares and thoughts forever
Though for the soldier who died brave a last parade.

But even the bravest of the brave does have some phobia
Though they may not admit to their secret fear
To do so would not be good for their egos
Of their phobias from them you will never hear.

I would like to live to be an aged fellow
And not have to struggle for my final breath
To go to sleep and not wake in the morning
That would be my idea of a perfect death.
