A Poem About The Flower Moon On Flower Moon Eve Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

A Poem About The Flower Moon On Flower Moon Eve

I want to write a poem about the flower moon
That is, the moon that blooms in May
As if it were a flower on a very long stem
Who will pluck it out of the sky
That little children may examine it in their cribs
And play at swallowing it
Earth. There has been an emergency
No one can find the flower moon.
Who has swallowed the flower moon
The headlines fume
While people go about in the darkness
Living by street lamp alone
Or energizer bunny flashlights
We mourn the passing of the flower moon
The headlines read, the anchors intone
Regretfully, a child has swallowed it
And glows emphatically
And will for the rest of its shining ever
Much too brightly
Life.
