A Prayer On The Same Occasion Poem by Rees Prichard

A Prayer On The Same Occasion

Permit us not, O God, thy gifts to waste,
Or eat our meat, as filthy hogs eat mast,
Ne'er lifting up our heads, our hands, or eyes,
To see, from whence those benefits arise!

But make us lift our heads aloft, and know
That all those mercies from thy goodness flow -
From thee, the Donor of our daily food! -
From thee, the source of light, and all that's good!

Let us then with incessant raptures laud
The loving-kindness of our gracious God,
And ever in his praise our songs employ,
For health, and ev'ry blessing we enjoy.
