A Rap A Tap Poem by Brian Ely

A Rap A Tap

What happened to the old days
The ones when we were young
Before we became flawed
So much since undone
No matter how far we've come
In pulling ourselves together
We're still stuck
With the same age old matter
Hanging over every head
In our dreams
Anxiously in bed
The evil that lurks
We just can not reach
A stain in our memory

What happened to the old ways
When we would purely laugh
Could we please bring those more perfect days back?
Is there a chance?
One glance
I remember a smile
This smile on every face
could end the reason why we race
Rather than walking together
Stop running or you may fall
Into a pit
Wherein only comprehension makes you tall
Don't yell
Just listen
Hear the truth
Why stars glisten
Reach out and speak your name
It is time to end the blame
Been making us so lame

What happened in all those pasts?
Ever putting worth to be last
Like a line on a serpent's back
OR laying those useless tracks
So much done and hard on everyone
Time to end the gun
Or the race goes on and on
To certain destruction...

...I sleep. Please no rap a tap.
