Come! listen you people of all time and kind
I put down in writing what is on my mind
I give you my joy my grief and despair
But just don't know why I should even care
The river runs its course to the sea
A passing moment like you and me
The things that are waitin' up 'round the bend
They've always been and will be to the end
You count yourself among the wise
But maybe you're just a fool in disguise
Whatever the shape of the mask you wear
The moment of death we all must share
Naked as you came from your mother's womb
They will lower you down in the tomb
What you've gathered from work and coincidence
May never bring justice to your own defence
Hey! Listen you people of all time and kind
And put down in writing what is in your mind
Give me your hopes and fears if you dare
And the reason why, I should even care

thanks for a very sane and comforting poem. the third stanza is particularly brilliant and universally true. john
I liked this immensely - I give it a 10. It has an air of commonsense...it is honest, observant, wise and very well written...satisfying with it's concluding stanza as at the start. Thank you. It becomes a favourite.: -)
