A Sight Not Seen Poem by Dakota Ellerton

A Sight Not Seen

Rating: 5.0

Prom night is here
clothes are laid out
the shower is still steamy
my hair is damp
I dry my face
prepare for my next task - makeup
black eyeliner on the bottom
a shadowy purple
a sparkle white to start the night
I'm almost ready
I apply the finishing touch
I dress then check over myself
my phone rings
I answer, I talk
time to leave
I arrive at prom
only greeted with the same question
I reply each time
I'm fine, I'm fine
I go to the bathroom
look in the closest mirror
I guess I didn't realize
I'd been crying the whole time
